It didn’t take long for the CBD market to kick into overdrive. Shortly after the 2018 US Farm Bill passed, everyone involved in hemp started spitting out increasingly creative CBD items. While CBD oils, gummies, and tinctures remain immensely popular, finding “niche” CBD extracts is now easier than ever before.
Since there are so many CBD products now available, new customers often express confusion over the complexity of the hemp industry. How do people choose the “right” CBD extract for them?
Well, the first step in finding anyone’s ideal CBD product is to review the different types of CBD on today’s market. The better customers understand which hemp products are available, the simpler it will be to choose amongst the vast array of CBD items.
The best way to narrow down your CBD shopping list is to clearly define why you want to use this cannabinoid. Do you want to enjoy the most intense effects of CBD, or do you want a more subtle & sustained sensation throughout the day?
Taking the time to review this question will eliminate dozens of superfluous CBD products.
For instance, you wouldn’t buy CBD edibles or capsules if you wanted fast-acting and high-potency effects. On the flipside, people who don’t mind slower-acting effects and want better discretion should examine these CBD items first.
Both edibles and capsules have the lowest absorption rate because they need to pass through the liver. While this means you won’t feel the full force of CBD in seconds, it also means CBD should have a more sustained effect throughout the day.
Customers who are most interested in high-intensity CBD should start their search with smokable hemp flowers, CBD concentrates, and CBD vape carts. All of these smokable products have the highest concentrations of CBD, plus they go straight into your bloodstream after you inhale.
For those who want a similar CBD intensity without inhaling smoke or vapor, CBD tinctures are probably the best bet. If you place a CBD tincture under your tongue before swallowing, you’ll enjoy a near 100 percent absorption rate. In this way, CBD tinctures offer remarkably high potency without aggravating pre-existing lung conditions.
Lastly, for those who only want localized pain relief, CBD topicals may be the best bet. Since these products go directly on the skin, you should only feel the effects on the targeted site.
While the tips above should help you sort through today’s different types of CBD, it’s also essential to check your CBD extract’s spectrum.
There are three types of spectrums CBD products could fall into:
Of these three, full-spectrum is the only one that could have traces of delta-9 THC. Under the 2018 US Farm Bill, these CBD extracts could have ≤ 0.3 percent THC concentration. Full-spectrum CBD oils contain the most associated terpenes, flavonoids, and secondary cannabinoids.
By contrast, broad-spectrum and isolate extracts cannot have any THC. Broad-spectrum CBD oils will have additional non-psychoactive hemp cannabinoids and terpenes, but CBD isolate will have ~ 99 percent of CBD. Also, CBD isolate is in a powder form and has no odor or flavor.
While it may seem like CBD isolate is the most potent of the three, that’s not necessarily true. Indeed, many people claim full-spectrum is the most intense extract because of the “entourage effect.” While it’s still a working hypothesis, the “entourage effect” suggests hemp cannabinoids and terpenes work together to produce heightened effects. Please be sure to compare your CBD goals against these three spectrums before picking a hemp extract.
